Business insights module in RecMan BI

In this article, you can read about the Business insights module in RecMan BI.

Overview

This module helps you analyze your projects or companies more effectively by organizing and visualizing key data like financial metrics, resource allocation, and performance trends.

Key features include a dynamic 12-month timeline for tracking progress, advanced filtering to focus on what matters most, seamless integration with related data sets for a comprehensive view, and the ability to set custom date ranges for tailored analysis.

The Business insights module aims to:

  1. Provide complete visibility into the financial and operational aspects of projects over time.
  2. Enable companies to track performance metrics such as contribution margin, costs, revenue, etc.
  3. Offer an Excel-like grid interface (similar to the Workforce insights module) for easy interaction and overview of key project data.
  4. Facilitate data-driven decision-making by allowing users to filter and view data from different sources.

Filtering

image

The module supports advanced filtering capabilities at the data level. All projects are shown by default. You can add filters, specifying different criteria:

  • Quick filters: Projects/companies with data
  • Project filters: Corporation, Company, Department group, Department, Project, Co-worker, Employee, Project type, Project phase and Status.
  • Economy & Staffing: Article type, Product, Product group, Service group and Service type.
  • Custom fields: Single select, Multi-select, Date, Text, Number, Money and Percent. Custom fields depend on the project and can vary depending on the projects in the module. When custom field filters are applied in the Companies view, project data is grouped by company.
  • Offers (if the Offers data point is selected): Has signature, Status and Offer type.
  • Employee type (if the Employees data point is selected): Employee, Subcontractor or All.

You can use several filters simultaneously.

In Advanced settings, articles marked as "Include in CM = No" can be included. Even if set to "No," such articles will still count towards Invoice and Salary calculations.

Sorting

You can adjust the order of any column by clicking its name. The icon for sorting in ascending or descending order appears.

Drawer

Certain elements, such as specific data in the spreadsheet, are clickable. Clicking them provides more detailed information in a right-drawer format.

Forecasting

The Business insights module supports future forecasting for vital financial and operational data points, such as CM, CM%, Salary, Invoice, and Logged work. This tool provides invaluable predictive insight, helping you plan resources and budgets more effectively.

Business insights forecast.png

Forecast displays forward-looking data alongside actual, logged data in both views. In Period view, the number of columns varies based on the selected period. Where a period contains a mix of actual and forecasted data, both are combined within the same column, with logged data always taking priority over forecasted data – once hours have been recorded for a given period, the forecast is no longer counted.

Forecast values are shown on hover. If a cell contains only forecasted data, a "Forecast data" tooltip is displayed. If a cell contains a combination of actual and forecasted data, the tooltip displays Actual, Forecast, and Combined values. The forecast period can be extended up to a maximum of two years into the future.
